Wal-Mart to measure suppliers’ carbon emissions


US retail giant Wal-Mart is to ask its suppliers to measure and report their greenhouse gas emissions, according to the Financial Times.

Wal-Mart, which owns Asda in the UK, could eventually use the data to cut costs, the FT reported.

The data would be compiled using methods developed by the Carbon Disclosure Project.

Wal-Mart will start with a pilot group of about 30 companies across seven product categories: DVDs, toothpaste, soap, milk, beer, vacuum cleaners an soft drinks.
