Tesco is set to take on energy-saving lightbulbs in some of its stores from the Irish company Nualight.
After Marks & Spencer signed a deal with the light manufacturer last month – something managing director Dr Liam Kelly said was bringing down its consumption – Tesco will now use the equipment in its Irish stores.
The first venue to implement the Vantium Porto lights is the Tramore eco-store, which opened its doors last week.
Dr Kelly asserted that retailers are constantly looking for operating measures that will help them to drive down costs and this should be the case at Tesco – which is now stocking David Beckham’s new frozen food range.
“Also, consumers now consider social and environmental commitment when deciding where to shop and trust organisations more if they are socially and environmentally responsible. So simply put, going green makes good business sense,” he commented.
Energy manager at Tesco Ireland Michael McNerney said that Nualight was chosen because of the “enhanced product illumination”.
