New green packaging is a first, claims Asda

Asda has claimed that its new recyclable packaging on the Extra Special range is innovative.

After outlining its natural baking range recently, the supermarket said that the overall weight of the packets has been lowered by 25%, while the items in the meat selection are also resealable.

Various products are included in the range, such as Yorkshire Roast Ham 130g, Boiled Wiltshire Cured Ham 130g, British Butter Roast Chicken Breast 130g and British Stuffed Chicken 135g.

Parkham Foods, the supplier based in Yorkshire, helped to create the packaging and Satty Virdee from the outfit said that customers increasingly want to help the environment.

“There are many foods which now have resealable or recyclable packaging but this is the first time we believe both have been used for cooked meats,” he said.

Asda revealed that in the past year it has sold 4.2 million packs of the products included in the changes.

This week, the retailer also began its quest to find the best regional beers in the UK.
