Marks & Spencer (M&S) has launched its new green delivery vehicle, which will operate in the London area starting this month.
The Modec delivery van runs on electricity alone and according to its manufacturer can save about nine tonnes of carbon dioxide each year.
Additionally, the vehicle can carry a similar load to a traditional M&S van, does not need an MOT, and is exempt from the capital’s congestion charge.
Director of Plan A at the retailer Richard Gillies said: “We are delighted to have the Modec van on the road. We are working hard to make our vans and lorries greener as part of our 100 point Plan A ‘eco-plan’.
“This van is not only good for the environment – is also very quiet, which makes it ideal for deliveries in built up areas like London.”
Various green schemes have been revealed by retailers in recent months, including the waste management measures undertaken by Budgens.
