UK grocery retailers doing their bit for the environment are to get their own awards – The Green Retail Awards.

Launched this week by the Nexus Media Retail Group, publishers of Checkout,
Independent Retail News and Talking Retail – and organisers of the prestigious Retail Industry Awards – the new accolades will recognise excellence in:

• Sustainability
• Ethical retailing
• Environmental friendliness

The awards are open to both major multiple retailers and independents, and categories will include:

• Energy efficiency
• Waste management
• Food miles
• Ethical
• Supplier-retailer partnership
• Product
• Green marketing
