Sainsbury's to source sustainable salmon

Wednesday, 11 June 2008
Sainsbury's is set to guarantee to source its farmed salmon entirely from sustainable stocks with high animal welfare standards, according to The Scotsman newspaper.

Sainsbury's has signed a contract with Marine Harvest Scotland and will receive 12,000 tonnes of fish annually.

According to The Scotsman, the salmon goes on sale this week and will be supported by a TV advert featuring Jamie Oliver, due to be shown today.

Sainsbury's has pledged to source all its cod, haddock, salmon, tuna and prawns from sustainable sources by 2010.
