Heinz launches Spread & Bake cooking sauces

Market leader Heinz is set to create new excitement in the £528m cooking sauces category with the launch of Heinz Spread & Bake, a new range of cook on coating sauces designed to complement the natural flavours of chicken, red meat and fish.

The unique range comprises four family flavours, made with high-quality natural ingredients, no artificial additives and only 3-4g fat per serving:

• Sticky BBQ: Sweet and tangy - ideal over chicken, but perfect over ribs and pork chops
• Mediterranean: Tomatoes, sweet peppers and herbs - delicious over chicken, but excellent over white fish
• Tikka: Creamy sauce with Indian spices and tomato, complements chicken but also great over lamb
• Moroccan: Fruity sauce with sultanas and Moroccan spices for over chicken or vegetable

"Families love the convenience of cooking sauces, but sometimes feel not only that the flavour doesn't get into their chicken and red meat, but that it can overpower the whole meal," says Adrian Mooney, Marketing Director, Heinz Sauces.

"The difference with our new, Heinz Spread & Bake range is that it covers the chicken breast or meat when in the oven, keeping it amazingly succulent, whilst complementing its natural flavours.

"Heinz Spread & Bake is a great option for mums who want more variety when they cook chicken."

Spread & Bake's thick texture and convenient cooking method puts a modern spin on the traditional cooking sauces category - just add a spoonful of sauce and spread over meat prior to baking to lock in the natural flavours and juices as it cooks, producing a deliciously moist meat with a light and tasty topping. Each jar contains 4-6 generous servings.

"The launch of Heinz Spread & Bake is the next stage in Heinz's long term strategy to breathe new life into the sauces category," says Adrian Mooney.

"Spread & Bake is a demonstration of Heinz's ongoing commitment to 'Being 1st on Every Plate' by investing in both our existing and new categories to help drive sales for our retail partners."

The traditional sauces market, currently worth £40m, has enjoyed a reversal in sales performance after three years of declining sales, growing by £5m in the 52 weeks to 22 September 2007. Its success can be attributed to NPD, which made up 50% of value sales over the same period.

The Spread & Bake range (RRP £1.49) will be in store from May, and will be supported with a significant advertising campaign planned for later this summer.
