Key calendar dates

Tesco Express will present at The Future of International Convenience Retailing conference in London, 16-18 September 2008.

Tesco Express commercial director Willie Hamilton will provide an update on the retailer's convenience performance over the last year.

Reitan, which operates 7 Eleven and Narvesen in Norway, has also joined the conference programme.

According to conference organiser Insight Research, Reitan is one of the best 7 Eleven franchise holders worldwide.

The conference kicks off on 16 September with a UK Study Tour & Briefings, sponsored by Camelot.

It will include visits to two of the newest, most advanced neighbourhood forecourt sites launched in Europe this year: the new Tesco Esso Alliance Express and Somerfield Texaco.

The tour will also take in a larger, more 'food for later- focused' BP/M&S site.

In between tours, to understand unique forecourt shopper behaviour, Siemon Scammell Katz, founder of TNS Magasin, will use the very latest research technology, to explain "Why shoppers must drive your strategy".

The visits feature senior retailer hosts and a debrief/Q&A session.

The UK Study Tour & Briefings on 17 September, also sponsored by Camelot, visits London c-stores.

These stores achieve some of the highest sales densities in the world.

Delegates can find out how they do it from visits to Spar, Subway, Marks & Spencer, Camden Food Co and salad chain Chop'd.

The tour will close with a debrief with Steve McDavid, retail marketing director at SSP; Matthew Knowles from M&S; Jasper Wight, managing director at Chop'd; Jerry Marwood, managing director at Spar UK and Hamed Al-Naqeeb at Subway.

The day will finish with a shopping experience to Whole Foods Market and a convenience industry dinner in Babylon at the roof gardens, Kensington.

The main conference takes place on 18 September 2008 at the British Library and is sponsored by Imperial Tobacco.

It will be chaired by Scott Hartman, president at Rutter's Farm Stores, USA.

Confirmed presenters include the following:

Gordon Campbell, managing director at Spar International

Willie Hamilton, commercial director at Tesco Express

Cathrine Stange, marketing director at Reitan (7-Eleven/Narvesen) Norway

Ed Burcher, senior director for foodservice, Petro-Canada

Karen Hubbard, UK convenience retail director for BP

Kirk Tanner, vice president, impulse, PepsiCo UK
