Tesco is being sued by Scots entrepreneur Tom Hunter over its plans to raise an extra £150m to help expand its Dobbies garden centre business.

Tesco said this morning that Hunter’s West Coast Capital had started legal proceedings to block the “open offer” to shareholders designed to raise the cash.

It added that it planned to mount “a robust defence of its strategy” in court.

Hunter owns 29% of Dobbies and tried to block the takeover by Tesco last year.
