UK is number one market for Spanish Wines
by Mike Dennis The UK was the number one export market in terms of value for Spanish wines in 2007, according to figures released by the Wines from Spain office in London. Wines from quality designated regions (DOs) dominated, with just under £140m-worth of DO wine being shipped to the UK, representing a 15.9% increase on 2006. María José Sevilla, director of Wines from Spain, said: The UK consumer is embracing our wines wholeheartedly, from the elegant whites of Rías Baixas, Valdeorras and Rueda to the wonderful reds of Ribera del Duero, Rioja, Priorat and Jumilla to name but a handful and is prepared to trade up, experimenting in different styles from a wide selection of regions. Spain is going from strength to strength and we are delighted that the UK is the number one market for Spanish wines in the world.
