Marks & Spencer will announce in May whether it is to start selling manufacturers’ brands alongside its own-label products. Chief executive Sir Stuart Rose told the Sunday Telegraph that a team of managers is looking into whether selling branded food and cosmetics would help drive sales growth and be supported by M&S customers.
He told the newspaper the move would be considered providing it does not bring the M&S brand into disrepute. He said: “I am a big fan of Tabasco, but when I want to buy some Tabasco, I have to go to Sainsbury’s.” M&S already sells branded food products alongside its own label at BP Simply Food forecourt sites. The decision on whether to widen this policy will be announced alongside M&S’s annual results in May.

I believe that the O... I believe that the ONLY area where M&S should consider introducing non M&S branded products should be the Food section.Doing this in non food areas and the M&S concept of superior quality and better make up[for which you pay] would be lost and the organisation would become an "also ran" outfit and then have to join the price compet*tion - which given todays quality would lead to either lower profit margins or lowering of overall standards! QED the end of M&S as we have known it for over 100 years. |
