Cameron to champion food co-ops to counter supermarkets
Conservative leader David Cameron will today back moves to set up US-style neighbourhood food co-ops to counter supermarkets' power over farmers, according to the Observer.
The newspaper says Cameron is expected to highlight the idea in a speech to the National Farmers Union today.
US-style co-ops are set up by local communities and champion locally produced, seasonal foods bought directly from suppliers.
