Barcodes plan to track supermarket booze

Wednesday, 23 January 2008
Supermarkets and off-licences could be forced to put special barcodes on bottles or cans of alcohol so police can tell where under-age drinkers get their booze, according to The Sun newspaper.

The plan is being considered by the Government as part of its review of alcohol licensing laws.

It is also looking at a ban on big discounts offered to customers buying beer or lager in bulk, says the newspaper.

The review is due for completion next month.
