Wal-Mart is set to take on Tesco’s Fresh & Easy US concept with its own small-format grocery stores, according to reports from the Financial Times (FT). It will be piloting stores of around 20,000 sq ft, and has already secured four premises in close proximity to Tesco's Fresh & Easy stores in Phoenix, says the FT. The stores could be open by this summer.
The trade name 'Marketside' is being touted by the FT and it has even suggested that the logo, “consisting of green lettering with a stylised tomato, egg and grape topped by a Wal-Mart blue star”, shows Wal-Mart is going head to head with Fresh & Easy's fresh foods focus.

Tesco are much more ... Tesco are much more experienced in the smaller style stores than Wal*Mart and have the first mover advantage. I could see this as being an embara*sing fail for Wal*Mart. |
