Quality Food Awards launches the Q Mark

Aldi and Waitrose have emerged as key winners in the prestigious Quality Food Awards.

At last night's event, held in central London, Waitrose walked away with 13 of the 26 awards while discount chain Aldi managed to scoop three awards, including the top award of the night for its Specially Selected Italian Stone Baked Pizza Romagna.

Further winners included:

• Waitrose for its Aceto Balsamico di Modena Selection Pack
• Tesco for its Finest Yogurt Ice Cream with Tulameen Raspberries
• Sainsbury's for its SO Organic All Butterscotch Fudge
• Asda for its Extra Special Chicken Balti Pizzatilla Wrap

But it wasn't just the supermarket own labels taking plaudits. Leading brands including Dickinson & Morris and Juice Republic also tasted success, taking away awards for their Pork Pies and Freshly Squeezed Orange Juice respectively.

The Quality Food Awards have been running for 28 years and set a benchmark within the food and soft drinks industry.

Judges on this year's panel were experts in the food and drink industry, ranging from top chefs, home economists and nutritionists to food and drink consultants.

With a record number of over 700 entries this year (double the amount entered last year) the 60-strong judging panel tasted their way through each of the nominations before selecting the star performers.
