A Labour MP has tabled a motion in the House of Commons condemning Heinz for calling its latest range of soups “Farmers’ Market”. ![]() David Drew objected on the grounds that the brand “makes no attempt to source its materials through farmers' markets and is, at best, causing confusion on what ingredients are contained within those soups let alone whether they would be capable of meeting the stringent standards that farmers' markets have to meet.” He claimed the new Heinz brand had caused “upset” to the farmers' market movement. The motion has been signed by 23 MPs. But a Heinz spokesperson said: "As we say on the label, [Farmers' Market soups] are made with selected ingredients inspired by farmers' markets and made here in the UK. "Consumers are very clear about what they are buying from Heinz, whether it is Farmers' Market in a can or from the chiller cabinet. "Heinz is very supportive of British farming and farm produce and we buy vast quantities of home grown ingredients for some of our most popular varieties." Related Articles

Heinz do not source ... Heinz do not source the ingredients for this so called Farmers Market Soup from the local producers who stand the Farmers Markets in all weathers to bring their produce direct to the public. They are simply capitalizing on the good name of the Farmers Market. |
