Waitrose to take on Whole Foods Market
Waitrose is to go head-to-head with American rival Whole Foods Market by launching its first premium supermarket in London. The new supermarket will specialise in ethical and organic produce will open in Marylebone High Street in a fortnight. It will showcase a new store design and a greater product range. New features will include a "Time of Day" counter serving healthy meal options. Plans include providing healthy three-course-meals as good as home cooked food. Mark Price, Waitrose managing director, said he wants to take on American Rival Whole Foods Market, which opened its first store in Kensington, West London, last week. Waitrose, part of the John Lewis group, will introduce additional premium lines and hopes to introduce the look to its other 183 stores.
