Spar wholesaler AF Blakemore & Son has "demonstrated its commitment to sustainable business growth" with the publication of its annual Corporate Responsibility Report.

The report, published on behalf of the Blakemore Spar and Logistics divisions, demonstrates how the company "lives it core values statement", The Blakemore Way and Spar's commitment to be There for You.

Annual targets are set in relation to the company's key focus areas of the environment, community, workplace and marketplace and reported upon quarterly at senior level corporate responsibility meetings.

This year's environmental highlights include year-on-year reductions in the company's carbon footprint and levels of waste sent to landfill.

AF Blakemore has invested in a comprehensive recycling centre to help reduce its environmental impact and that of the Spar stores it serves.

Blakemore Spar and Logistics have donated 1,272 hours of employee time to volunteering projects over the past 12-months, which have supported around 2,600 members of the local community.

Highlights include the seventh annual AF Blakemore kids' football competition, activities to mark Road Safety Week and a series of community-based regeneration projects.

The impact of the company's workplace programme, which includes a colleague health and wellbeing and social programme, has seen year-on-year reductions in staff turnover and an increase in staff satisfaction demonstrated through the company survey.

Blakemore Spar's flagship Guild Academy has been the centre piece of the company's marketplace campaign along with ongoing support to Blakemore Spar's independent retail base.

AF Blakemore's corporate affairs manager, Paul Cowley, said: "A central tenet of both A.F. Blakemore and Spar relates to the need to work together with key stakeholders such as colleagues, customers, suppliers and local communities to achieve mutual success.

"This document represents an important stage in Blakemore's corporate responsibility journey and illustrates how the company lives and measures these core values."
