Retailer The Mills Group has completed the acquisition of five stores from supermarket chain Sainsbury's in a deal it hopes will increase annual turnover by 10%.Four stores previously branded Sainsbury's Local in Hull and a Bells store in Norton, Cleveland, have all be given a new Mills fascia. The stores - which range in size from 1,200sq ft to 2,000sq ft - will be supplying their customers with licensed, food to go, chilled produce, frozen foods, news and magazines. The Mills Group, which joined Nisa-Today's in 2004, has 27 CTNs and 51 convenience stores around the North-east of England, Cumbria, North Yorkshire, West Midlands, East Midlands and South Wales. David Pickford, sales and marketing director at Mills said: "It's great that the stores have moved back into the independent retail sector, especially in the current economic climate. "The stores becoming independent again means that they can provide the community with a personal service, wider range of products and offering customers a truly local service." The Mills Group is based in Whitley Bay, Tyne & Wear, north-east England.
