Tesco lowers organic veg prices |

Tesco has lowered the prices of numerous organic salad and vegetable products after input from consumers. It said that prices of organic items including broccoli, carrots and potatoes will now be on the shelves at only a slightly higher price than their traditional counterparts. The supermarket stated that it has been able to lower prices because more produce grown in the UK is now available again following the floods in 2007, lessening the reliance on food shipped from overseas. Organic produce buyer at the company Jonathan Corbett noted that the changes will be a strong incentive for customers during the current economic climate. "Shoppers have told us that they want organic produce but want to pay prices closer to the standard equivalent and this is what we have done," he commented. He also said that Tesco will look to further reduce the price of its organic items, although at present the difference between both ranges can be up to 40%.
