Prices cut at Netto

Monday, 28 July 2008
Discount retailer Netto has said that it is going to lower the prices of a number of its staple food items, a move it argued is not a "gimmick".

The low-cost supermarket revealed that it will lower the price of one in every 15 products across its full range in order to give customers a respite from growing inflation.

Managing director Richard Lancaster stated that the cost of staple products including eggs, bacon, butter and bread will be slashed.

He remarked: "Most importantly, we've reduced the prices of products that shoppers actually want to buy, not just random groceries that are perhaps bought just once or twice a year."

Netto has a history of supplying consumers with cheap food products, he added, and this can be witnessed in the new initiative.

Lancaster asserted that a total of £6m can be saved by customers across the course of a year directly because of the changes.

The average pack price at Netto is 91p, the firm added, which is lower than at other supermarkets.
