Food sales plummet by record 3.6% in June
UK retail sales fell by 3.9% between May and June, the largest decrease since records began in 1986, according to the latest Government figures.
Sales volumes in food stores fell by 3.6% also the largest fall since 1986. The drop was even greater in non-food stores, with another record fall, of 4.5%. June's falling sales took the three-monthly growth figure to +0.6% between April and June, when compared with the previous three months. This was down from the 1.6% growth recorded in the three months to May. Three-monthly growth for food stores fell by 0.2% and in non-food stores sales rose by 1.1%.
