Marks & Spencer boss Sir Stuart Rose is set to come under increasing pressure at the company’s annual general meeting next week after the retailer’s shock announcement of plunging like-for-like sales, say reports.
According to The Guardian City analysts are openly speculating that Rose might be forced to step down.
One leading retail analyst said there was a 40% chance Rose would eventually be forced out.
Another said the credibility of senior management had been undermined and that Rose's future “should now be considered”.
Rose is already under fire over his decision to combine his role of chief executive at Marks & Spencer with that of chairman, a move that contravenes City corporate governance guidelines.
