The UreLife card launched this week on London’s Oxford Street, providing the UK with its first ever payment card combined with proof-of-age identification.
This will have a major impact on a number of national issues:
Combating underage drinking:
By helping retailers and licencees to quickly and easily verify the age of a cardholder, Children spending with a UreLife card will not be able to purchase age-restricted goods including alcohol.
Protecting children online:
The UreLife card gives children the freedom to buy online, but can protect against buying age-restricted items as the card number incorporates a system that identifies the cardholder’s age bracket. This functionality can be extended to social networks and other websites.
Preventing underage gambling:
As the UreLife card incorporates the user’s age and identity, online Gambling sites will be able to spot anyone using a UreLife card that is underage and automatically ban them.
Protecting against identity fraud:
The UreLife Card is the UK’s first payment card to incorporate a colour photograph and printed date of birth. Combined with the standard chip and pin security, this makes the UreLife card one of the safest payment systems available.
