Foods Matter launches Free-from Food Awards
Foods Matter, the specialist magazine for people with a food allergy or food intolerance, is hosting its first Free-from Food Awards on 21 May 2008 in central London. The awards have been launched in response to the expansion of the free-from foods market in the last five years. Food Matters cites figures from market analyst Mintel, which show the category has grown by 300% in that time, despite still relatively limited awareness in the medical profession. As the only magazine covering this area, Foods Matter felt that it was time to celebrate this growth and that the best way to do so was to reward excellence among the many products now available to food allergic and intolerant customers, said Food Matters editor, Michelle Berriedale-Johnson. Foods Matter holds regular monthly tastings of all the major groups of free-from foods, and it is the results of these tastings (held in 2007-8) that will form the basis for its annual awards although special judging sessions will be held to choose the overall winners and the most innovative products. There are nine awards categories plus an Innovation Award and an Overall winner, chosen from all of the category winners.
