DHL wins £54m contract extension with Nisa-Today’s

Thursday, 03 April 2008
DHL Exel Supply Chain, the world’s leading logistics services provider, today announced that it has signed a contract extension worth £53.5 million (approximately €69.9 million) with Nisa-Today’s to continue to deliver frozen and chilled foods throughout the UK.

Nisa-Today’s is the UK’s leading organisation owned by independent retailers and wholesalers and supporting its members in the food and drink market.

DHL Exel Supply Chain will continue to provide warehousing and distribution services for Nisa-Today’s throughout the UK, working with DHL Global Forwarding, the air and ocean freight specialist, for a trial in the Republic of Ireland.

The contract includes the transportation of 27.8 million cases of chilled and frozen foods each year.

This contract extension will see DHL work with Nisa-Today’s to support its growth in emerging markets, help develop their route infrastructure with a focus on reducing mileage and carbon emissions and reviewing any further collaboration opportunities such as the BP and Nisa-Today’s cross dock operation in Harlow.

Nisa-Today’s operates at fast pace in order to meet customer requirements, supporting its members by providing the lowest cost goods in the sector and delivering ambient, chilled, fresh and frozen products throughout the UK.

John Sharpe, Managing Director of Central Distribution Trading and Logistics at Nisa-Today’s commented: “We have enjoyed a great relationship with DHL and have appointed them until March 2011 to support us in developing our routes and supply chain whilst working with us to increase our carbon efficiency - a real focus for us.

"We aim to help customers grow their sales and increase profits in a competitive market and we believe DHL’s strength in supply chain operations will help us to achieve this.”

Chris Sharp, Managing Director Food Retail, DHL Exel Supply Chain, said: “This contract extension reflects the solid relationship we have built with Nisa-Today’s over the past 18 years and demonstrates our ability to react to the needs of its business.
"Our capability in route optimization, excellent levels of service and collaborative approach with other customers and DHL entities were all significant in winning this contract extension.”
