Child-resistant lighters deadline approaching
With the 11th March 2008 fast approaching, Imperial Tobacco is reminding retailers that all lighters sold in wholesale and retail outlets must be child-resistant from this date in order to meet new European Commission legislation. The measure has been introduced to prevent young children (under 51 months) from operating lighters. The new child-resistant lighters are clearly labelled and designed with a more complex ignition process to discourage use by minors. Iain Watkins, Trade Communications Manager, Imperial Tobacco comments: We are committed to informing trade customers on all aspects of legislation affecting the tobacco category and Imperial Tobacco has supplied child-resistant lighters since 1st March 2007. "From 11th March 2008 retailers purchasing lighters should ensure they carry the child-resistant logo and editorial.
