New compostable Biostarch bags for life

Read more about
Source : Dempson Crooke

Dempson Crooke, one of the UK's largest paper bag manufacturers, has launched a range of Biostarch compostable carrier bags and fruit and vegetable bags to the UK grocery and retail sectors.

Biostarch is a product made from non-GM maize, is very strong in use, and will normally fully degrade to water and carbon dioxide in your garden compost heap in less than 90 days.

Developed by Biostarch Technology Ltd, and available exclusively in the UK from Dempson Crooke, Biostarch uses less energy to produce than many other “eco-friendly” plastics, contains none of the toxins present in some degradable plastics, and has no impact on landfill.

Jon Katzauer, Managing Director of Dempson Crooke, said: “Biostarch is an innovative organic product that takes less energy to produce, is extremely versatile, practical and has attained the European compostable standard EN13432, as well as the Australian standard for Home Composting.”

Ideal for dry goods, the Bio-Multi bag tolerates short-term exposure to moisture, is comparable in strength to conventional heavy duty ‘bag for life’ plastic bags; can be easily folded; carried; has a natural premium finish and is reusable.

Jon Katzauer commented: “The Bio-Multi bag is the new biodegradable ‘bag for life’, once it has been exhausted, it can be destroyed naturally in the garden.”

The Bio-Fresh fruit and vegetable bags are on a perforation roll for easy separation and ideal for use in the supermarket to hold loose fruit and vegetables. Once in the home they can extend the life of the fruit and vegetables outside of the fridge and can be used as a food waste bag.

Jon Katzauer concluded: “We have worked for a long time to develop environmentally responsible solutions; our company credo is ‘For our children’s sake’. BioStarch is a truly innovative product that has a very positive purpose and effect on the environment and we are really excited to be introducing our new range of fully compostable and biodegradable bag solutions to the UK.”
