M&S launches its first ever ingredients range
For the first time ever Marks & Spencer is launching a stunning range of cooking ingredients, which will be available in all stores from January 2008. The range – developed with all Mark & Spencer's passion for great tasting food – will feature 150 products at launch, growing to 300 by June 2008, and is designed for the increasing number of shoppers wanting to cook from scratch but still wanting ease of use and a range they can trust. The new range will make M&S a one-stop-shop for all cooking needs. Steven Esom at Marks & Spencer said: “This is a totally new departure for us. At M&S we believe great food starts with great ingredients – we’ve always been famous for the quality of our fresh and prepared food but now we have used all our passion and enthusiasm for great tasting food to create a stunning new range of cooking ingredients. ‘Foodies’ will love the lengths we’ve gone to source the best tasting, most authentic ingredients possible, while shoppers looking for a bit more help will find our ready made essentials such as stocks, chopped herbs, cake and spice mixes really easy to use.” Steven added: “From now on customers looking to cook from scratch and wanting to buy all their ingredients under one roof will increasingly find everything they need at M&S.” The new range features a whole host of ingredient essentials including herbs and spices, sauces and flavoured oils, bread and cake mixes, ready-to-use stocks, dried and tinned vegetables, spice mixes, rice, pulses and noodles, dried fruits, nuts and seeds and finishing touches such as ready-to-roll soft icing and paper baking cases. To make it quick and easy for customers to find the right ingredient for recipes, the range is split into four distinct areas; Cook With…., Serve With…, Flavour With… and Bake With… Cook With… features wet and dry spice mixes inspired by Indian, Thai, Moroccan and Caribbean cuisine. Dry spice mixes such as Methi Chicken and Lamb Madras have been created to make life in the kitchen simple but without taking away from the authenticity of the dish being prepared. Each ‘kit’ contains a freshly blended spice mix and an easy to follow recipe. The kits have been developed in conjunction with family run Spice-n-Tice. Based in Leicester, the Varu family’s recipes have been perfected over generations and reflect mother Manjula’s upbringing in Kenya and her husband Ramnik’s childhood in Uganda. The wet and dry spice mixes both include shopping lists on the back of pack noting additional ingredients required to make the dish, all of which are available from M&S. Other Cook With … ingredients include a range of beans and pulses including Organic Chickpeas and Organic Butterbeans, Organic Pearl Barley, Organic Coarse Oatmeal and Organic Red Lentils as well as Fish, Beef, Chicken and Vegetable Stocks. Flavour With… covers every ingredient needed to season or add flavour to a dish. Chopped garlic and herbs are conserved in oil with a touch of lemon juice to keep flavours fresh without the use of preservatives. The Organic Sicilian Lemon Juice, containing organically grown Feminello lemons that are hand picked and travel just a few kilometres from lemon grove to juicing, brings the flavours of Italy to any kitchen. While the Porcini Oil with Black Truffle, with its intensely earthy notes, is just the thing to drizzle over antipasta. Other ingredients include Smoked Paprika, Cinnamon Sticks, Ketjap Manis Soy Sauce, Nam Pla Fish Sauce and Organic White and Red Wine Vinegar. Bake With… will bring out the domestic goddess with everything needed to create the perfect cake, muffin or wholesome bread. The range includes deliciously decadent products such as Organic Madagascan Vanilla Extract, Dark Muscavado Sugar and Orange Blossom Water for more practiced bakers. While the quick and easy bread, cake, muffin and cookie mixes – the Victoria Sponge Cake Mix even includes strawberry jam – are just the thing for aspiring cooks. Truly delicious, you will be tempted to pass off the rich and gooey Chocolate Fudge Cake Mix as your own, while the scrumptiously moist Double Chocolate Muffins will disappear in moments. The range also boasts a wide and fully organic array of dried fruits, nuts and seeds including Organic Deglet Noor Dates and Organic Turkish Sultanas as well as Ready-to-Roll Soft Icing and Marzipan. Long famed for the quality of its fresh and prepared food, the new M&S range of cooking ingredients is free from artificial colours and flavourings, in addition to being authentically sourced. The range will be available in store from 2 January 2008 with a further 150 ingredients introduced by June 2008. Prices range from 35p - £3.99.
