Peter's Food Services has secured a multi-million pound contract with retail giant, Asda, which will result in more than 30 new jobs and a £650k investment at their South Wales Bakery in readiness for manufacturing to start early in the new year.

The announcement comes hot on the heels of the £20m buyout at Peter’s in October, which saw new MD Mike Grimwood take over from the Griffiths family who had been at the helm for 10 years.

The new agreement will see Peter’s supplying Asda with a quarter of a million savoury pastries (or 32,000 kilograms) each week.

Technical and Retail Sales Director, David Jackson, said: “We have been in discussions with Asda for around 12 months and are delighted to be able to give the good news to our workforce in time for Christmas.

“ Peter's started supplying Asda two years ago, so a large additional contract shows that Asda have great faith in the Peter's business and its workforce. Customer satisfaction has been consistently high which has led to bigger opportunities such as this.”

The 30 new full time staff being appointed by Peter’s in January will cover a variety of skilled roles in production, engineering, product development, dispatch and sales, making the Bedwas facility one of the areas largest employers with more than 500 staff.

David added: “The new contract is helping us shape the Peter’s of the future. It paves the way for the growth of our business and the Peters Brand and is a great example of how we plan to develop future trading relationships with some of the major names in retail.”
