Phillips Foods set for European expansion

Phillips Foods, industry leader in seafood products for the foodservice market in the USA, is now set for major European expansion – recruiting an additional four experienced, regional sales managers and moving to a new expanded European head office in the UK.

The company has had a limited presence in the European market for the past five years and having laid the foundations is now expanding its resources to pursue an aggressive growth strategy.

Tony Breene, managing director of Phillips Foods Europe, explains: ‘The European seafood market is very different from that of the USA, so the early years were very much a learning and experimentation process for us. We are now moving forward and are building a team that will enable us to exploit the potential that we have identified in the foodservice and retail markets.’

‘Our European operations will be co-ordinated from purpose-built offices in Nottingham, UK’ Breene adds. ‘Joanna Phillips has joined us from the US parent company to head up marketing and we have recruited experienced territory managers to drive the sales effort and handle existing key accounts across both the UK and continental Europe.’

‘Our development kitchens, under the control of respected head chef Hendrik Prade are now fully operational and will be a key ingredient in providing menu development for our foodservice clients as well as driving forward our growing range of ready-meals.’

Breene is excited and optimistic about the potential for expansion across Europe; ‘We are confident that the Phillips reputation for premium seafood solutions – evidenced by more than 30 awards over the last 6 years, including the top foodservice prize in the 2006 Seafood Prix d’Elite - coupled with support from our highly experienced client handling team will make a big impact on the European seafood market and allow Phillips Foods Europe to maintain its rapid growth.”
