Over the past 20 years, the UK food-to-go market has become increasingly sophisticated and diverse. People are spending more of their waking hours away from home, whether at work, leisure or commuting, so they eat many of their meals on the move.

In 2005, the out-of-home food and drink market was worth US$706 billion in Europe and the UK leads the way, spending more per capita on food consumed in transit than any other European country (source: Datamonitor).

With this increased demand comes increased competition and the need to differentiate, for example with innovative in-store presentation. Food-to-go operators must also address health and environmental concerns with higher quality ingredients, better pack information and reduced wastage.

The easyFairs Food on the move show is a brand new London event dedicated to this fast moving sector. Taking place at ExCel on the 16th and 17th October, it will showcase the full range of innovations and developments in retail and production for the fast food and food-to-go sector, including small-to-medium sized food production.

For exhibitors, it is a unique opportunity to reach a highly targeted audience in a trade show environment designed to make it easy and cost effective to do business. From raw ingredients to new franchise concepts, and from big household names to niche suppliers, this show encompasses the whole food-on-the-move supply chain.

For visitors, it is a convenient and accessible way to get right up to date with the latest innovations, services and trends, as well as providing unrivalled networking opportunities. Perfect for owners, managers and partners of independently owned outlets and small chains, and representatives of the multiples and larger regional chains, easyFairs Food on the move will enable visitors to capitalise on the business opportunities presented by changing food-on-the-move consumption patterns;

Sharing information, new ideas and best practice is the mark of a progressive sector, and easyFairs Food on the move also provides visitors and exhibitors alike with the opportunity to do just that through its learnShops™ concept.

Located within the exhibition hall, the free learnShops provide an ideal forum for top industry experts to speak on a range of hot business, technical and operational issues, including:
• Pam Feltham, Franchising Development Consultant, Howarth Franchising, on “Develop your business further by franchising”
• Tim Fender, Director of him! on “Retail principles in food service”
• Kevin Duck and David Tymm, Directors of Andromeda and I-movo on “Digital Vouchers – realtime promotion”
• Masood Khawaja, President of the Halal Food Authority, on “Halal Food on the Move”
• Sue Ellis, Head of Local Environment Protection, Defra on “Reducing litter in the food to go sector – a code of practice”
• Stephen Minall, Moving Food Ltd, on “Consumer trends and the real effect on food-on-the-move”
• Annette Pinner, Chief Executive, Vegetarian Society, on “Cater for the vegetarian food-to-go customer”
