The latest development is part of the company's aggressive expansion plans and is strategically located to meet organic growth from customers and target new business from both the UK and Europe.

Planning application to build a 191,000 sq ft (17,740 sq m) warehouse has been submitted on a 12.36-acre site. The building will feature 25 dock-level loading bays and have space to accommodate 75 trucks and trailers.

Established at Market Drayton, Shropshire, in 1994, Culina provides temperature-controlled shared-user supply chain solutions for many of the leading chilled food and drink manufacturers in the UK.

The award winning company has a turnover in excess of £80-million and due to its continued success has grown significantly, opening major new facilities at Milton Keynes in 2001 and Staffordshire in 2006.

The new site will feature the latest 'state-of-the-art' warehouse management system to constantly monitor and update stock levels to ensure maximum efficiency and maintain the company's 99.995% pick accuracy.

Rien Brakel, managing director of Culina, said: “The new site continues our strategic business development plan to establish Culina as the market leader in high-quality chilled logistics services in the UK.

“The location fits perfectly as a large percentage of our clients' manufacturing facilities are based on the continent. It also enables us to manage deliveries in the south east of England more efficiently.”

When the new site becomes fully operational in August 2008, Culina will employ in excess of 1,100 people in the UK.

As with the existing facilities, the new warehouse will operate 24-hours a day, servicing up to 450 delivery points within the retail and wholesale sectors.
