DHL retains distribution contract with Rank Hovis

Source : DHL

Rank Hovis, the UK's leading flour miller and baker, has retained DHL Exel Supply Chain to handle the distribution of its product throughout Britain.

The decision follows a strategic review of the miller’s logistics operations in the UK, which have been provided by DHL for over 15 years.

Rank Hovis is part of the Premier Foods Group, one of the largest food companies in the UK and Ireland.

DHL has secured early renewal of the contract with Rank Hovis for a further five years. The contract will see DHL utilizing its specialist fleet of vehicles to handle over 1 million tonnes of flour every year, helping to ensure that stringent food and hygiene standards are met.

As part of a complete supply chain solution, DHL delivers flour in bulk tankers from eight flour mills spread across the UK to a number of Rank Hovis sites, as well as other bakers’ facilities. DHL also supports the distribution of bagged flour to smaller bakeries throughout the UK.

DHL employs a total of 255 people on the Rank Hovis contract, operating a total fleet of 91 vehicles from Glasgow, Wellingborough, Rotherham, Selby, Manchester, Barry, Tilbury and Southampton.

Roly Taplin, business director within DHL’s food manufacturing division, said: “The new contract is based on a long standing relationship with Rank Hovis, but also moves the agreement forward to include an element of ‘gain share’, whereby we are rewarded for good performance and innovations introduced to the working relationship.

"This incentivization doesn’t stop at delivery performance, but includes critical health and safety measures, which are key issues for us moving forward.”
