Retail Solutions 2007: showcasing technology developments

Retail Solutions 2007, held between 5-7 June at the NEC in Birmingham, will offer visitors the opportunity to discover the latest products and services from over 250 solution providers. This year, the exhibition is debuting its ‘Store of the Future’, and visitors will also be able to hear a number of top industry names speaking at the free seminars.
The new ‘Store of the Future’ exhibit, in association with Fujitsu, takes the appearance of a futuristic retail store, offering visitors the chance to take part in an in-store shopping experience of the future. Visitors can be taken through, and interact with, a number of different technology functions it is predicted will be part of the high street shopping experience within the next five years. Technical experts will demonstrate the technologies and visitors will be able to see how these can be tailored to the specific needs of their store environment. Sarah Kellett, retail industry consultant at Fujitsu Services, will be supporting the exhibit with a seminar focusing on ‘What’s in-store for the 21st century shopper?’
Store replenishment solutions provider Aldata is another exhibitor offering a different perspective on technology, and will be sharing insights into creating an ethical supply chain. Other exhibitors to watch out for include BT, which will be revealing a solution designed specifically for grocery retailers and Axis Communications, which will be demonstrating a number of new, high quality network video-based solutions.
The free seminars will run throughout the three days and will cover a number of industry issues including ‘international growth strategy’, ‘fraud and loss prevention’ and ‘in-store developments’. This year’s speakers include: Michael Lucking, project manager, support office for the productivity department at Tesco, who will reveal how Tesco uses intelligent queue management to build sales; Ivan Brooks, vice president and chief information officer at McDonald’s, who will discuss how to exploit technology for a dynamic customer experience; and Mark Gould, managing director of Hughes & Hughes Bookstores, who will discuss 360 store monitoring with innovative network video.
There is also a new, free ‘networking event’ on the first evening, where visitors will able to mingle whilst drinking cocktails. On 6 June the winners of the European Retail Solutions Awards 2007 will be revealed from a list of 13 shortlisted categories.
