2007 Real Cornish Food Guide out nowThe 2007 Real Cornish Food Guide, a joint initiative between Taste of the West in Cornwall and the Cornwall branch of the Women's Food and Farming Union (WFU), has been launched at Padstow Farm Shop and is now available to all local and visiting Cornish 'foodies' across the county. Now in its third successful year of publication, The Real Cornish Food Guide has become an essential directory for holiday visitors and local shoppers alike, helping consumers to find places to buy and eat the freshest, most flavoursome, locally produced Cornish food and drink. The 2007 Guide features over 132 product and 'where to buy' listings, including 19 places to eat Cornish food and drink, a 50% increase in hospitality outlets since the 2006 edition. Newcomers include The Green House Organic Restaurant at St Keverne, Little Pengelly Farm Tea Room at Leedstown near Hayle, the Liskeard based Troffa@Sterts at the Sterts Theatre, as well as the Venus Café & Beach Shop at Newquay. There are over 50 new listings for producers, retail outlets and farmers markets, not featured before, including Falmouth producer Granny Nunn's Bread Pudding and Bodmin based Cornish Epicure with their chutneys, jellies and hot sauces, as well as newcomer Vicky's Bread, a small artisan organic bakery in Helston producing naturally leavened bread. There are many new farm shop listings, including Carruan Farm Centre, Polzeath and St Kew Harvest Farm Shop near Wadebridge, as well as Higher Tenowin Farm Shop at Penzance with its own prime beef and free range eggs. The award winning Purely Cornish delicatessen in Looe also features for the first time. Angie Coombs, Taste of the West in Cornwall said, 'The Guide seems to go from strength to strength and has become 'a must have' for sourcing and eating locally. It's great to see so many new products, farm shops, farmers markets and places to eat this year, giving everyone the chance to seek out something fresh and new and different.' The Real Cornish Food Guide would not have been possible without the financial support of Royal Cornwall Agricultural Association, Cornish Mutual, North Cornwall District Council, Penwith District Council and Mitchell & Webber. The enthusiastic support of Cornwall Women's Food and Farming Union, with the help of Plough to Plate and Arts Around Cornwall, will ensure the 100,000 free copies will be widely distributed across the county in farm accommodation, visitor attractions, tourist information bureaus, shops and delicatessens, encouraging more consumers to source locally. Angela Parker, chair of Cornwall WFU said: The Guide is so important in helping to make the connection between farming and quality food production, encouraging consumers to eat fresh, healthy locally produced products. It's also very helpful to the chef or shopkeeper who wants to stock Cornish food - a great source of information. It's so enjoyable to shop and eat out locally, discovering new local delicacies, or to find a farm shop where the beef or lamb is raised on the farm itself. We want consumers to get to know and trust the people who grow our food. Copies of the 2007 Real Cornish Food Guide are available from Taste of the West in Cornwall.
