Lucy Neville-Rolfe of Tesco features in the Guardian’s “Comment is Free” blog today, defending the company over allegations of questionable ethics.
Her defence follows Guardian articles looking at the wages paid to clothing workers in Bangladesh and the collapse of fresh produce supplier Bomfords shortly after some of its gangmaster subcontractors were busted for not paying the national minimum wage.
Neville-Rolfe’s response? “We are not perfect. Things sometimes go wrong. But our detractors, including various pressure groups, should recognise that where they do, we accept that we have a duty to act, and we do act.”
