Tesco is to invest £3m into a management training programme.
The figure is up by nearly a quarter on the 2008 investment and the retailer claimed it was the largest investment in senior team development in the sector.
Over the next 12 months the money will be pumped into developing senior managers and directors through the Tesco Academy, the supermarket’s internal training centre.
Peta Hay, director of the Tesco Academy, said: “Our investment in leadership development represents the largest investment of its kind in the retail sector.
“This will ensure that, as the business continues to expand, our leaders have the capability to deliver the targets set.”
