Ocado and Waitrose price match promise is ‘not all it seems’, says Which?

Waitrose and Ocado are failing to meet their promise to match online prices with Tesco on selected items, according to the website Which?

It found numerous products, listed as part of their price-match promotions that cost more at Waitrose and Ocado than at Tesco.

An example of this included a pack of 20 Persil Non Bio Capsules, which was priced at £3.94 at Tesco, but £5.99 at Waitrose.

On other days, it found that selected Pizza Express pizzas and Colgate toothpastes cost twice as much at Waitrose and Ocado than at Tesco.

Ocado and Waitrose say they make it clear how their prices are matched, and say that their terms and conditions reflect this. However shoppers would have to check the Tesco website to see if the Waitrose or Ocado price is cheapest, said Which?

Ocado told Which?: “We’ve been price matching since 2008, and have always made it extremely clear that the promotion is based on Tesco’s standard retail prices and not temporary offers.”

Waitrose stated: “We make it very clear that our brand price match doesn’t include temporary promotions. We have more than 1,000 promotions a month in our shops running entirely separately to the price match.”
