Stop press: women are better at shopping than men. Fact. It's confirmed. Breaking news today confirms exactly what the 'boys' at Talking Retail have been saying for years - women are much better than men at shopping. Our friends at the University of California have been spending lots of their time researching and came to the conclusion that women have an evolutionary gene that makes them better at shopping. Apparently, they are better at locating the whereabouts of fruit, vegetables and wait for it - high-calorie treats, while shopping in large stores. Researchers asked 86 men and women to take a trip around a farmers' market and then return a little later to the stalls with their favourite food. Women were more accurate in remembering the position of each stall and analysis revealed their memories were not influenced by how much they liked the food, oh no. Instead they managed to find the products carrying the most calories. I wonder if any of those were chocolate? The research revealed men were better at map reading. I wonder what the results would have been like if they had asked volunteers to find the beer stall? Glenn Pearson
